Wellington Pride Festival | Tū Whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara
21 February - 8 March 2020 | Wellington, New Zealand
The Wellington Pride Festival | Tū Whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara is a two-week long festival celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community in Wellington. The festival is inspired by Wellington's rich history of queer fairs and festivals and showcases the incredible talent, hard work, and creativity of Wellington's queer community. Wellington is a wonderfully diverse city, and the Festival program is a celebration of this diversity.
The Festival grew from the Newtown Lesbian & Gay Fair, which was created in 1986 to build support for the Homosexual Law Reform. Since then, the fair has grown into an annual celebration of the diverse LGBTQIA+ communities in the nation's capital and is possibly the longest-running rainbow community event in Aotearoa including the key events such as Out in the Park.
The Wellington Pride Festival | Tū Whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara showcases a great variety of events organised by groups within the community. Our rainbow community encompasses lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, takatāpui, fa’afafine, intersex, queer, and all other gender and sexual minorities.
Wellington Pride Festival | Tū Whakahīhī e Te Whanganui-ā-Tara, is a registered society with an elected committee of volunteers serving as the society board. We invite everyone to explore the festival!
