Diversity & Inclusion Policy
Wellington Pride Festival

Wellington Pride Festival Inc’s purpose is to host a range of fun, safe, empowering and accessible events for the entire rainbow, queer & takatāpui community to enjoy. We aim to celebrate and support inclusive rainbow, queer & takatāpui creativity and diversity in the Wellington region. Our annual festival provides a platform for our queer cultures to be authentically shared and celebrated, raising visibility and awareness of our struggles and successes.

Wellington Pride Festival Inc’s purpose is to create safe, empowering and fun events for Wellington's rainbow, queer & takatāpui community.

These events include, but are not limited to;

  • A two-week long Pride Festival

  • Opening Gala

  • The Pride Hīkoi

  • Out in the City, Wellington’s Annual Queer Fair

  • The Pride Youth Ball

It is important to Wellington Pride Festival Inc that everyone feels included, safe and welcome at our events. To work towards being as inclusive as possible, Wellington Pride Festival Inc has developed the following policy when entering into partnerships with businesses/organisations and people participating in our events.

“Wellington Pride Festival Inc will only engage with individuals, organisations, businesses and/or companies that are supportive and respectful of all LGBTQIA+ employees, members, customers, patients or other relevant individuals, ensuring all spaces are safe and respectful.”

This includes, but is not limited to, involvement in the Pride Hīkoi, Out in the City, the Pride Youth Ball, the Pride Opening Gala, and any other Festival events. This statement also applies to Wellington Pride Festival’s acceptance of donations/sponsorships/promotions.

We respect that there are small groups working to create safer spaces in organisations and businesses but are unable to create large scale change due to systemic issues. Wellington Pride Festival will use this platform to help highlight those issues, and support those groups.

The Wellington Pride Festival Inc Board reserves the right to decide the suitability of events to be included in the festival.
