Spiral Collectives, founded by lesbian poet Heather McPherson 1975–76, is possibly best known as the publisher of Keri Hulme's Booker Prize-winning novel the bone people.

Spiral's 50th anniversary has already been celebrated by the publication of five free-to-download books and exhibitions at Te Puna o Waiwhetū Christchurch Art Gallery and Charlotte Museum Te Whare Takatāpui-Wāhine o Aotearoa.

This exhibition celebrates 19 cherished Spiral artists and writers who are no longer with us and who are further documented in ‘Spiral 8: Setting the [Work] Table’ and ‘Some Stories’.

This associated event celebrates the new gen Spirals, with conversations between Becca Barnes and Cathasaigh O'Fiannachta, facilitators of Spiral's graphic novel project, producing Keri Hulme's the bone people; and a presentation of Sisters in Crime awardee Kim Hunt's new crime novel The Corrector.

Artists and writers included in the exhibition are, in birth date order, Jacquie (J.C.) Sturm, Renée, Arapera Blank, Gladys Gurney (Saj), Frances Cherry, Marilynn Webb, Heather McPherson, Keri Kaa, Rosemary Johnson, Pauline Neale, Miriama Evans, Joanna Margaret Paul, Juanita Ketchel, Irihapeti Ramsden, Keri Hulme, Sharon Alston, Hilary Baxter, Allie Eagle, Lynne Ciochetto.

A simple afternoon tea will be served.
