We are working on a range of ideas for products. First out the gate are Wellington Pride Festival wristbands, perfect for announcing your availability to mingle.

Grab a wristie!

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there’ll be people you’re attracted to at Rainbow events that you’d like to get to know better. And yes, attending these events is about being part of the wider community, but let’s not pretend that it’s not also a really great opportunity to meet new people. What if there was an easier way to tell if they might want to meet you too?

As a fundraising initiative, we’re now selling Wellington Pride Festival wristbands you can wear out to indicate your willingness to mingle. It’s like handkerchief code but much less complex!

How you define mingling is up to you. It could be a way to strike up a conversation while sharing a protest banner. Maybe it signals you’re ready to book a u-haul at the slightest bat of someone else’s lashes. It could provide a way to chat to someone who’s going to become the most valuable member of your pub quiz team after it turns out you’re not romantically compatible. Perhaps it lets others know that while you’re at an event with your partner, you’re still open to situationships… the possibilities are as diverse as our community. 

Obviously, a wristband is not a substitute for proper conversation or consent. It’s not an excuse to be a creep. But it’s you being approachable - and helping Wellington Pride Festival with some of our expenses while looking extra cute.  

Wristies are just $10. You can order yours via the form below,. and pay via bank deposit. 

  • Bands are 202mm long but stretch to fit over your hand.  

  • Only NZ shipping is available.  

  • Each band features the WPF logo ‘W’, as well as the words ‘Wellington Pride Festival’, positioned at a random point on the Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue/Purple rainbow background.

  • Wristies will be sent out in generic handwritten envelopes (because we have no money for branded stationary anyway) so don’t worry if you share a letterbox with people who don’t need to know about your pride! 

You can also pick up a band in person at select Wellington Pride Festival events. Once you’ve got yours, please feel free to send us a photo to add to our gallery!
