Volunteer with our Signature Event teams
Want to play a larger part in the Wellington Pride Festival without having to fully commit to the committee? We’re now recruiting volunteers to join specific teams who will focus on one project without having to worry about the organisation as a whole. Join up to help your favourite event or find the perfect match for your skillset.
Volunteering with us is an awesome way to meet new people, to give back to your community and to build your talents and resume. We believe people getting a chance to test out working with the committee is a great way for us to become more sustainable as an organisation as well.
These positions aren’t paid (none of us are paid!) but we are looking for people who will take the roles seriously. We will be asking you to sign a Code of Conduct agreeing to WPF’s kaupapa.

Hutt Valley activation
They Ate cooking classes at Naenae Community Centre
We have some funding from the Hutt City Council to deliver activities that strengthen rainbow community wellbeing and belonging in Lower Hutt by creating safe, culturally respectful opportunities for Takatāpui, LGBTQIA+, rainbow and queer people — and their whānau — to connect, share kai, learn together and build community pride.
We’re looking for people from the Hutt to help us plan and deliver these activities! That might look like hosting Board Gaymes nights, or teaching one of our They Ate queer cooking classes, or coming up with other ideas that we can carry out at Te Whare Kahukura.
Got connections in the Hutt? Wanna make some cool stuff happen? We wanna hear from you. This work happens year round in addition to the Festival time period.

2027 Programme coordinators
With over 100 events happening in the Festival, we’re looking for someone(s) who’s extremely detail-oriented. You’ll be helping us make sure that events get their paperwork in, that we’ve got the right blurbs and images and that everything makes it onto the website and the booklet.
This role will be done mostly from home, in your own time
You’ll need excellent communication skills as well as the ability to juggle multiple tasks
You’ll need to be comfortable being a little bossy with people if they’re not meeting their deadlines.
This work will really kick off in January through February, but you can be involved more before that if you want to learn what goes into producing the programme.

Rainbow Windows of Wellington - street team
One of the Rainbow Windows from 2026
Rainbow Windows of Wellington asks businesses in our city to decorate their windows in the spirit of Pride. We had 45 entries in 2026 but we’re keen to get lots more next year, which is where you come in!
Able to smooth talk your way into making others celebrate it too? Then Rainbow Windows of Wellington is looking for you! We need a team of volunteers in late January and February to visit shops and organisations to tell them about Rainbow Windows and encourage them to participate in Rainbows Windows of Wellington 2027 during Pride season.
Your skills may include:
Happy to walk - will involve weekly ‘door knocking’ sessions all over the city to drum up interest
Confident in speaking - putting across our case - Pride all over the city
Good team worker - supportive, problem solving, sharing the load
Good networker - looking beyond door knocking to see other opportunities in their locales or networks
If you would like to get involved sooner, you can join the team to work on the communications plan, the artwork and getting sponsors on board

Pride HQ - a hub for queers
Tori leads a zine-making workshop at Pride HQ in 2026
Once again we will be having a physical space as our home during the two weeks-ish of the Pride Festival. What happens in that space is up to you! Join the Pride HQ team if your interests and skills lie in these areas
Spatial planning: we’ll be working with Urban Dream Brokerage again, so how can we get the most out of the space we end up with?
Event planning: what free event ideas can you deliver for our queer community on a miniscule budget?
Community liaison: we want our community to use the Hub as much as possible - can you make connections with movers and shakers?
Decorating: how can we make an empty space feel like home?
Youth: We would especially like to hear from you cos we missed you last year! What would you like out of the hub? Join our team and let us know.
We will not have access to the physical space until right before the Festival, but we would like to plan as many events for it as possible as early as possible, so planning meetings will begin once we have a few people eager to take part.

Wellington Pride Picnic Co-coordinator
Pride Picnic 2026
Help us organise the Pride Picnic, an annual event for the community to get together, share some kai and be entertained by queer artists.
This is a great way to get involved with organising Pride without too much of a time commitment.
You will work alongside an experienced Pride Committee member who has now delivered two picnics, in collaboration with the Burnett Foundation, our Pride Picnic partners!
Your tasks would include assisting with the following – there will be no expectation that you need to lead these items, but we’d be totally happy for you to if you want to take it up!:
Helping to organise the venue with Wellington City Council and make sure that we plan the event with safety in mind and meet other requirements
Assist with organising the logistics – How will picnic day play out? Who do we need for setting up and packing up? How will we deal with rubbish?
Keep things running smoothly on the day – we will have lots of volunteers to do things but we need you to help coordinate them
Meet with the Burnett Foundation to agree on the shape of the picnic – What sorts of community organisations will we have there? Should we have food trucks and a coffee cart? What should our entertainment be like?
Help publicise the event.
Who knows, you might love the people and the mahi so much that you want to do more for Pride in future years too!

Out in the City coordinators
Stalls at OiTC
We are looking for two volunteers to help us in advance with Out in the City this year.
Out in the City is one of our signature events, with more than 70 stallholders. We need people to help us review stall applications, communicate with stall holders and manage the behind the scenes administration of making Out in the City happen. We are looking for two people, one to help manage the stall applications (mostly Oct-Dec, with a small tail of work through March) and one to manage communication and information to stall holders (mostly Jan-March). You will be working alongside a WPF committee member who was part of the OitC delivery last year.
These roles can both be done entirely from home.
Your skills might include:
Good at email communication and managing inboxes
Admin and Google Sheets skills
Good at working with a team to co ordinate large events
Comfortable following up with people
