Hello, is it you we’re looking for?
We want to put on the best Pride yet to celebrate our 40th anniversary next year, and to do that, we need to be better resourced. Committee turnover, illness and a court case have left us stretched a little thin - maybe your skills are what we're looking for?
Current roles we need help with - Sep 2025
All of these positions are unpaid, however we require professionalism and dedication.
These position descriptions are very brief - for more information, get in touch with Joanna, the WPF Chair and she can answer any questions and discuss whether your skills align with the festival needs, or if there are better ways for you to help out.
Committee members
We need new members for our committee. If you are interested but reluctant to commit to the full three year term, that’s okay! As we don’t have an AGM until July next year, this means people are brought on at the chair’s discretion and you would technically be a temporary member until you are affirmed by our wider membership at the AGM.
Recognising gaps in our team, we are especially interested in hearing from takatāpui and members of the MVPFAFF+ communities.
The committee meets fortnightly during the year, on Sunday afternoons. We usually meet in person, with an online option. Committee members are expected to also be responsive on the team Slack throughout the week.
Committee members work on various project teams for events, as well as work together to provide advice and get things done. Time commitments can be adjusted to suit your personal requirements, but we need excellent communication and attentiveness to your assigned tasks.
Things will be very very busy throughout February and March. It is very hard work but it is also an incredible experience.
Specific roles we’re looking to fill
Grant application writers
We rely on grants to produce the festival, and in order to get these grants, we need to apply for them.
Would be very useful to have a background in this area
Can be done in your own time usually, though there are strict deadlines to meet
Would not need to attend regular committee meetings, but would need to have online meetings with others in the funding team to make sure things get done
Need very good communication skills - especially writing - and self motivation
This is a very very important role - without grants, the festival cannot run.
Stallholder coordinator for OITC
Our stallholder coordinator is a key part of the Out in the City team, making sure that our queer community can get spaces to sell their wares
Initially 2-5 hours per week, rising to more as we get closer to the festival
Can be done in your own time usually, though we would expect timely communication with our stallholders
Customer service function, handling enquiries and bookings
Need to be detail oriented and keep great spreadsheets
Will need to attend OITC team meetings, can be in person or online
This may be an ideal position for someone who would like to support Pride and our community, but wouldn’t be a good fit for the physical work of building OITC, or dealing with loud crowds.
You do not need to be a member of the WPF committee as a whole to take on this role.
Website content administrator
This work is loading information and images about people’s events for Pride into the WPF website. It’s painstaking and not very glorious, but it’s very vital. Similarly to the stallholder coordinator, this may be an ideal position for someone who would like to support Pride and our community, but wouldn’t be a good fit for the physical work of building OITC, or dealing with loud crowds.
Needs experience using website CMS - Squarespace experience is ideal but if you’ve used other CMSes, you should be able to pick it up quickly and training will be provided.
This will ramp up throughout November as more people send through events, though it is likely to be busiest from late January to March
This work can be done in your own time, though you will need to meet deadlines
You don’t have to attend any meetings, beyond online training, and regular check-ins with the website admin (Joanna)
You need to be very detail oriented to make sure that all information is correct
You do not need to be a member of the WPF committee as a whole to take on this role.
TikTok creator
Would you like to help Wellington Pride Festival reach new audiences? Are you a Tik Tok native? Because we are absolutely not.
Create TikToks to loose briefs from us when we have information to share
Monitor our channel
Keep an eye out for any risks
You’ll need to play well with others, and take guidance well
This role is about pushing WPF’s kaupapa rather than individual glory
You do not need to be a member of the WPF committee as a whole to take on this role.
Other opportunities
If you have a particular set of talents that we haven’t listed here but that you think would be useful to us at Wellington Pride, please do get in contact, we’d love to hear about them!
We will also be seeking volunteers for particular tasks on the ground of the festival closer to the time.
