Support WPF in court as we fight anti-trans bigotry

As you probably know, Wellington Pride Festival is being sued by a group of anti-trans activists called LAVA (Lesbian Action for Visibility Aotearoa), because we did not let them have a stall at Out in the City in 2021, as they did not fit with the kaupapa of our event.

During September and October, we will have three weeks in court to make our case. We would love for our community to support us in the courtroom on September 3-5, September 15-19 and October 6-10.

As seating is limited, we’re using a roster to make sure support is spread out over this period. If all the slots on your preferred date(s) are filled and you’re unable to attend on another day, let us know, and we may be able to move things around.

Please be aware that these days go from 10am-5pm (though you may sign up for a half day), and may contain upsetting content. We would especially like to encourage our cis allies to step up.

Contact tasmin@wellingtonpride.com to register your interest and availability.

Can’t make it in person but keen to support? Donate to our Givealittle raising money for costs associated with the case.

Accessibility

  • The court is fully wheelchair accessible

  • Gender neutral bathrooms are available

  • Seating is sturdy and arm-free, but hard

  • You can leave the courtroom and re-enter (quietly) at any time

  • We will have a breakout room available for supporters if you need a safe space

  • You are welcome to wear a mask.
