Want to create your own events for Pride 2026?
Your Pride committee is currently very busy planning our signature events for 2026, but they’re not all that makes the festival great. It’s also you, our community. There’s no way we’d be able to create the 70+ events that we’ve had in past years by ourselves. Maybe you’re thinking about an event you’d like to see at WPF 2026? Maybe you could even create it yourself!
Okay, hold on, before you run away screaming or trembling in fear. Your event does not have to be a 6000+ person fair. It doesn’t have to be a multi-act stage production. Half a dozen people having a cosy, civilised discussion on queer politics would absolutely count as a Wellington Pride Festival event too. Your event could be any size - all it has to do is meet our inclusion and diversity policy.
But of course, we want it to be as easy as possible for our community to create the events they want to see as part of Pride, so we’ve put together a beginner’s guide to creating Pride events. Take a look at it now and start your thinking.
Later in September, we’ll be opening up to applications from first time event creators, followed up by applications from the pros in October. Keep an eye on our socials and newsletter as well because we plan on running a workshop or two to answer more questions kanohi ti ke kanohi.
We can’t wait to see what you’re planning!
